Infrastructure Ontario says bundling creates efficiency

August 12, 2013

Despite calls that the bundling of the Eglinton Crosstown and Scarborough light-rail transit (LRT) lines will cost taxpayers half a million dollars, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) says the bundle will create an integrated system and will ensure efficiencies. “This approach is constructive and efficient because it ensures a more competitive procurement environment and value to taxpayers,” said Paulette den Elzen, communications manager for major projects with IO, of the bundling approach. She added that integrating the two lines into one project ensures a system that will be operational by 2020. “You’re creating operational efficiencies and you’re optimizing the use of resources because now one entity would be responsible for the project-wide design, integration and maintenance.” (FULL STORY) By Kelly LaPointe, Daily Commercial News
